Bellevue, WA | July 7, 2009 - Salient6 wins SharePoint design contest. As part of the promotion for this year's SharePoint Conference 2009, Microsoft held a design contest – re-design the Conference homepage. Salient6 founding partner and Creative Director, Robert Chrestensen saw this as a great opportunity to show what is possible. From years of experience in visual design and applying this expertise to the SharePoint platform, the most common customer request Robert has heard is, “Can you make our site look less like the out of the box SharePoint experience?" For this contest, Robert pondered the many ways the word “re-design” could be used and decided to go with a house painter metaphor. He first created a fresh and compelling design for the site (with just a touch of Las Vegas – the venue this year), while keeping SharePoint's underlying structure in mind. Then came the clever aspect: he placed a screen capture of the standard SharePoint look in the corner of his new design and added the "painter," – a stock photo of a painter on a stepladder painting over the old SharePoint look with a fresh design. “This originality is what I feel pushed my design over the edge,” says Robert. “On the same design, showing the obvious difference in what comes standard with out of the box SharePoint versus what you can do with some creativity and applying what’s possible with SharePoint Designer really created a compelling picture. You don’t have to settle for less than optimum design if you know how to design for SharePoint.”

Robert will be attending the conference in October at Microsoft's invitation and will be happy to talk visual design in SharePoint and Salient6's capabilities with anyone who's interested.
